About the Artist:
Not many musical artists get their start by finding inspiration in the sounds of a vacuum cleaner. But that’s exactly how Alt-Pop artist Izik got started. At four years old, his mother discovered him sitting on the staircase humming to himself while matching the pitch of the vacuum as she cleaned their family home.
Izik is a native Hawaiian, alternative-pop artist who credits his musical influences toartists like Mariah Carey, The Carpenters, Amy Winehouse, Loyal Garner, Beyoncé and Frank Ocean. When asked how he would describe his sound, Izik says, “I’m what would happen if Sam Smith, Teresa Bright, Solange Knowles & Maggie Rogers re-recorded ‘Lady Marmalade’.” He has spent years honing his craft and has developed a unique sound never before heard in Hawai‘i. Izik began performing in local venues across Hawai‘i in early 2013 and eventually began integrating wearable art from local artists into his performances. Izik’s original and eccentric fashion sense has since become a familiar trademark style to the community and his fans worldwide. He is a multi award-winning performer with local, national and international tours under his belt. The Utah-born, Hawai‘i-raised singer/songwriter released his second album &bougainville (Zeo Music) in October 2019; a follow up to his debut release, Obsidian. In 2020 he won the Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award for Alternative Album of the Year. Izik values creativity, individuality, and inclusivity which can be seen in his performances, media, professional appearances, and everyday life. His mission is to share genuine experiences and give voice to the less heard by being a creative force for the indigenous communities.
